Dear Fiends and Alumni
The University
and the Business School were not and are not immune to the
challenges that mark the past months and the future for this
country. As most of you are aware, the University declared
an enrollment emergency in February 2009 resulting in
layoffs totaling 55 faculty and 30 staff. The Business
School was impacted losing six faculty and two staff. These
layoffs were not performance based but were a necessary
consequence of the turbulent economic climate. As a result,
the School said goodbye to both recent and longtime staff.

We are excited about the fall 2010 recruiting season.
We are off to a great start and have lots of activities
planned. In September CAU was well represented at the
National Black MBA conference in New Orleans, LA.
While the majority of conference attendees hold MBAs or are
in the process of earning an MBA, CAU had the opportunity to
meet and share program information with several prospective
students from the Texas and Louisiana areas.

On
October 15, 2009, the Undergraduate Student Business Council
sponsored the annual Fall Mixer.
On
Tuesday, October 20th
(10:30 a.m. and 12 noon) and Thursday, October 22nd,
2009 at 12 noon (three separate cohorts; select one day and
time), the CEO Academy will conduct its annual corporate
adoption ceremony.
In addition to
the strategic alliances created through the CEO Academy, the
undergraduate program has established a significant
corporate partnership with MetLife.

The Supply Chain Management
Advisory Board met on Monday, October 5th to on campus to
provide leadership to the university’s undergraduate
program. Lead by Craig Reed, Senior Vice President of Supply
Chain Management at Eaton Company, the board members spent a
successful session providing ideas and recommendations to
support the strategic direction of the program. These
companies have provided such things as jobs, internships,
financial support, and guest speakers.

Jeff Shirley
graduated from
CAU’s Graduate School of Business in May of 1990. In June of
1990. He joined Coca-Cola as the Senior Director of
eMarketing for North America Brands in 2001 and joined
Georgia Pacific in Sept 2002 as the Director of eMarketing
for their Towel, Tissue, and Napkin Brands. In November
2004, Jeff was named Director – Diversity Business
Development for Georgia Pacific

In early September Dr. Davis hosted the Annual School of
Business picnic with record breaking alumni attendance.
This fall has been filled with exciting brand building
business school events. Later in September the MBA program
chartered a bus and transported 33 students to New Orleans,
LA for the 31st Annual National Black MBA
conference. By the time we finished unpacking our madi gras
beads we immediately shifted gears for our next local
event…CAU Homecoming 2009.
