Accounting Department

Accounting is central to the management process. It helps managers make decisions and empowers them to fulfill their stewardship responsibility. The Accounting Department was formed when the School of Business Administration was established, and its history parallels the history of the School. Although the MBA Curriculum does not provide a Concentration in Accounting, the core curriculum requires two accounting courses (Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting). In addition, it is strongly recommended that MBA students concentrating in Finance choose Intermediate Accounting as an elective outside of their area of concentration. Recruiters indicate that in many cases Intermediate Accounting is a bare-bones necessity for employment in financial and other areas. Students in other concentrations often elect Intermediate Accounting in order to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of theory, meaning, limitations and processes of accounting statements as they pertain to business.
